Justices of Peace in Conference

.RESPONSIBILITY OF UPHOLDING HIGH TRADITIONS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Regret that fewer than half the 0000 Justices of the Peace in New Zealand belonged to the Justices' Association, was expressed by Mr 11. H. Seaton, president-elect, at the annual conference of the Federation of New Zealand Justices' Associations, which opened at Wellington to-day. The conference will be continued tomorrow and Thursday, the business being relieved by visits to various institutions and reserves. The delegates were welcomed at a civic reception by the Mayor, Mr TC. A. Hislop, and the conference was opened by Mr B. L. Dallard, undersecretary for Justice, who asked delegates to remember that upon them rested a grave responsibility to uphold the high traditions of their office and to maintain public confidence in (he administration of justice. A welcome to the delegates from other centres was given by Mr H. Shortt, president of the Wellington Justices’ Association. It was decided that next year’-s conference bo held at Christchurch. An invitation to hold the 193 S conference at New Plymouth was given by the Taranaki delegates. The. following officers wore elected:— President, Mr H. H. Seaton (Wellington); vice-president, AI r A. H. Hobbs (Christchurch); lion, registrar, Mr A. J. Stratford (Auckland); lion, solicitor, Mr L. P. Leary (Auckland); lion, auditor, Mr E. C. Phillips (Auckland).
