Sealed Cars for Dangerous Drivers

MAGISTRATE MAKES SUGGESTION. Per X J ress Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A new penalty in cases of dangerous driving and travelling at an excessive speed was suggested by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., when hearing by-law cases in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. “I have been hoping that power will be given to tho Court to order the sealing down of cars so that they cannot exceed a given speed,” said Mr Mosley. “It would be a very excellent way of punishing speeding motorists, if they could be ordered not to exceed 25 miles per hour over a definite period, and provision could be made for this end by sealing down their cars.” There was an outcry all over the world now, Mr Mosley said, against the killing, maiming, and injuring of people iu motor accidents. Magistrates had got to stop it. Last week he had received 30 cuttings from Australia, all relating to charges in respect of careless driving and excessive speeds. Comments from the Bench in these cases were not being made without cause.
