From Our Own Correspondent. Foxton Plunket Society.

The presentation of trophies to the successful candidates in the Beautiful Baby photographic exhibition, took place on Wednesday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of mothers, accompanied by children who were entrants. The function was arranged by the committee members of the Foxton Plunkot. Society and a very pleasant time was spent. A competition, arranged by Mr ; S. Edwards. Mrs W. Trueman (president of the Plunket Society) welcomed the mothers and children, expressing the pleasure of the committee at seeing such a largo attendance in view” of the unpleasant weather, conditions. Mrs Trueman thanked the members of the Rosco staff for the willing assistance they had given throughout the exhibition and also thanked tho donors of trophies who were as follow: Mesdames A. S. Easton and Frank Robinson, the Rosco store and Mr C. N. Nash, of Palmerston North. Mr Christie, who addressed his speech to the young mothers present, spoke of the founding of tho Plunket Society. Referring to the local branch of the society, Mr Christie said that It was a sub branch of tho Palmerston North Society, and was inaugurated by Mesdames R. McMurray, Frank Robinson, D. Christie and B. Austin, Mrs McMurray being the first chairwoman and Mrs Robinson afterwards filling that position for many years. For six or seven years the society met in leased buildings in Clyde street, and it was then decided to hold a baby queen carnival to raise funds for the erection of the present Plunket' room's. Tho carnival proved to be fnost successful and as a result, beautiful, fully r equipped rooms,, free of debt, were opened by Sir Truby King..' The society was very - much indebted to the -McCarthy Trust, which has made, several grants, while money was also raised by means of a shop day. A recent suggestion, made by Mrs-D. R. Barron, that-a photographic exhibition should' bo held, was enthusiasr tically taken up. by the committee,, the object in view-, being to, raise ■ £lO. ;The exhibition was held and so keen was the interest taken' in it that a sum of £76 resulted. Mr. Christie made special reference to the candidates in the, exhibition from' Oroua Downs, there- being four entries, from-this part, of the .district, which secured a first prize, two seconds and a third.' Mr Christie also mentioned the Marotiri district which had as a candidate "Barry,” the winner of the cup as well as'sectional.'honours. Special thanks were also due to - all the-parents who had assisted in any way and also those parents who had their babies photographed simply from a desire to help- the society. Mr Christie made special mention of the excellent work' carried out by the society’s nurse (Miss Lockwood). Mrs Trueman then made mention of the. fact that when the exhibition had resulted so successfully it was decided to award second prizes in addition to the trophies for first places originally decided upon. She then called on Mr Christie to present the cup to little Barry Bowater and in doing so Mr Christie referred to the splendid work done by Mr and Mrs Bowater in connection with the exhibition. The first prizes were then presented by Mrs Trueman and the second prizes by Mrs Barron, as follows: Class A, James Newth 1, Emily Williams 2; class B, Donald Speirs 1, Barbara Ross 2; class C.
