From Our Owu Correspondent. School Picnic.
Tuesday last dawned gloriously fine and proved an ideal day for the Stanway school children and their parents to hold their picnic at Johnson’s Park, Feilding. Swimming formed the major part of the morning's programme whilst swings and slides received their share of use from young and old. Games were indulged in with geat zest for school games seem very different when older members join in too. Following picnic lunch, and one of the most important items of the day, free ice-creams, a programme of races was efficiently carried through. The following were the results: Boys’ race, W. Christian 1, J. Marshall 2, A. MacMillan 3; girls’ race, Betty Macfarlane 1, Betty Christian 2, May Marshall 3; threelegged race, Isa MacMillan and Joy Craine 1, Lyra Christian and May Marshall 2, Irene Christian and June Wilson 3; three-legged race (boys), W. Christian and A. MacMillan 1, J. Marshall and M. Cowdrey 2, R. Davy and J. Parsons 3; consolation race (boys), I. Cole 1, J. Parsons 2; consolation race (girls), Lyra Christian 1, Irene Christian 2, Beverley Cowdrey 3; mixed race, M. Cowdrey 1, Joy Craine 2, Isa MacMillan 3; relay race (boys), A. MacMillan, J. Parsons and J. Marshall 1; relay race (girls), Lyra Christian, Isa MacMillan and Irene Christian 1; hands and feet race, boys, A. MacMillan 1, J. Marshall 2,. M. Cowdrey 3; girls, May Marshall 1, Isa MacMillan 2, Lyra Christian 3; married ladies, Mrs F. Cowdrey 1. Mrs Leet 2. Mrs Macfarlane 3 and Mrs Parsons 4; single ladies, Misa Groves 1, Miss McDowall 2, Miss Callingham 3; married men, Mr Leet 1, Mr Cowdrey 2, Mr C. Christian 3. A very tired but happy band of folk wended their way home after a most enjoyable day. Social Evening, •Prior to the dismantling of the old school building, which was commenced on Wednesday, a very enjoyable social evening was heid. Old and young, former and present-day pupils, gathered to have a jolly time and bid farewell to their old school. Cards, dancing and games occupied the evening and were keenly 'entered into.
