Chief of Police Killed
SHOT DOWN BY TWO YOUTHS

According to reports from San Juan, Puerto Rico, the chief of police was shot and killed and au under police officer mortally wounded by two Aatiuualist youths who have been continually agitating for tho independence of the island from tho United States.
The chief of police was Francis Riggs, a retired American army culoncJ, who was killed whilo returning from church. His assailants were arrested but later were shot down and killed when they attciuxitcd to overpower the police and attack the district police chief, Ortiz, who was at Ponce where he was attempting to disperse a Nationalist- demonstration.
The two youths said they killed Biggs in revenge for the Bio Piedras “massacre.” They were referring to a student riot of several months ago in which four nationalists were killed.
