Battleships Tonnage Not to be Disturbed
CRUISER LIMIT MAY BE REDUCED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Monday, 7.35 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 23. The American refusal to reduce battleships from 35,000 tons assures the Four Power Conference's retention of the existing limit and dissipates hspe of substantial reuucmoue bi2C and cost. The Daily Telegraph's naval correspondent attributes the decision solely to technical reasons. Nevertheless, the conference is believed to have agreed to cruisers of a maximum of 8000 tons instead of 10,000 tons, which may mean the saving of £300,000 on each new British heavy cruiser which will also be restricted to six-inch guns. The British Admiralty always maintained that 10,000 tons is excessive for cruisers.
