THIRTY-MINUTE DINNERS The pressure cooker is in a perpetual and pleasing state of development, and one of the best models seen in London recently enables tho housewife to steam and roast at the same time. It requires for the cooking of a complete dinner only a quarter of the heating power usually concentrated upon ono saucepan. With this cooker, one uses the heat ing power until a whistle blows to show that the very small amount of water required as a preliminary has become converted into the steam which will carry on. Various combinations of containers for use in conjunction with the cooker enable the expert user to get the last ounce into (and out of) it. As an example of a meal for a family of three the cooker will take roast beef and potatoes at the bottom of the cooker, mixed vegetables in the first container a pudding in the second and stewed fruit in the third. The whole can be cooked in thirty minutes. The cooker is scientifically constructed so that, while all essential juices arc retained, there is no mixing of flavours. It will also bake, stew, fry and braise.
