There was great controversy over the Coates statement, that 50,000 farmers were said to bo liable to bankruptcy, were there no protective legislation, to save them. Excellent rains had broken the dry spell that had been experienced from pastures were making rapid growth since the rains. l’eilding sale had seen yarded 25,000 sheep, in place of but 15,000 advertised. Ewes had declined shortly and lambs but slightly, this latter in consequence of the schedule rates dropping one farthing. • Fat cattle were getting dearer, but store cattle were meeting only a fair demand.
