From Our Own Correspondent. Euchre and Dance. Heavy rain undoubtedly spoiled the attendance at the premiere euchre and dance held In aid of hall funds. However, the players enjoyed many, close games, the’results being: Ladies, Misses H. Gore and-’M: Bailey, ill -, games/ equal, Mrs Hazelhurst, IUJ games, consolation, Mrs N. Lawrence; men,: Mr J. Corbon, 12 games, Mr - Clarence Puklowsld, 10J games, Mr Rex Buklowskl consolation. Mr H. Gore, chairman of the hall committee, in. presenting the prizes, mentioned that the next euchre will be in a fortnight’s time. Supper yvas served, after which M. H. Gore was M.C. for a delightful dance for which many more, patrons rolled up. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr Schwass and Miss N. Pie. Institute Meeting.

Although the afternoon was wet, some 40 ladies attended the February meeting of the W. 1., a large number of these being visitors including Mesdames Gore, Crhnston, Bullock, Robinson. Huntington, Prentice, Terry, Edwards, Child, Templeton, Misses Cranston and O'Brien. Mrs Johansen (president) expressed sympathy and members stood a moment in silenco in respect to the memory of the late King, and also Mrs Jones and Robin Gray. Apologies were received from Me3dames Myer, Burr, McLeavey, Fafeita and Speedy and Misses IMeCool, Speedy and C. Vautier, Mesdames Johansen and Clayham were appointed group delegates. Attention was drawn to the W.I. social and dance to be held on February 22 in aid of school funds and a full attendance is requested. An excellent demonstration on tho making of cushions was given by Mrs Child who had many beautiful samples on view. Elocutionary items by Miss Cranston and solos by Miss O’Brien were greatly enjoyed. A visitor, Mrs Robinson, . had kindly brought-along an array of her paintings and these were put out on exhibition, Tho competition judged by two visitorsfor a jar of botled fruit was won by Miss Connie Vautier, with Miss M. Vautier second and Miss Vera Burr third. Miss Burr liad tlic only entry in tho asters competition. Next month tho meeting will be on March IS and the talk will be oil the growing and planting of bulbs. The competitions are for madeira cako and collection of demonstration articles. Nominations will be received for two officers for the next year. The hostesses are Mesdames Ulirbom, Meyer and Misses C. Vautier, M. Lancaster and F. Stubbington. The hostesses who served up an enjoyable cup of tea on Wednesday, were Mesdames H. Smith, Eagle and Misses Vautier and R. Panic. General and Personal. Mr and Mrs Eric Keys were Island Bay visitors staying with Mr and Mrs W. McMurray, who have returned to Wellington. Mrs Jones has had her sister, Mrs Robinson, from Hamilton, staying with her. Mrs J. Hodgson is still making good progress toward recovery since she returned from hospital. Still in hospital, Mr C. Puklowski’s condition is the same. Weather of late has been Unsettled, and many hopes are expressed for a lino day on Friday, the date fixed for the school picnic. A form of influenza that lias a sickening effect, is going the rounds of tho district at present, and many folk, particularly small children, have been on the sick list.
