Scout Movement

ENDEAVOUR TO REVIVE INTEREST A meeting ig,, to be field shortly it Paliiatua, when all parents interested in tfie Boy Scout movement will be asked to be present and to give their support to tfie committee in its endeavour to place tfie movement on a footing. For some time past interest lias waned, and in speaking to a member of the committee yesterday a “Times” representative learned that since its inception the committee’s hardest task had been to get sufficient parents to take an active interest bj attending meetings and also in seeing that their children joined up. Another matter which has troubled those an charge is the shortage of Scoutmasters. Job That Carries Worth-while Responsibility. It is to be hoped that when the meeting mentioned is called that there will be some y'oung man at hand who will,, be prepared to sacrifice a little of his time in the interests of the lads of the town. The duties of a Scoutmaster are far from irksome and the authority and responsibility the station carries has been the means of moulding the character of many a young man to fit him for a responsible position in after life. Roll Call of 40 Members.

Not so very long ago tke movement in Pahiatua boasted of its roll of 40 members. To-day its functioning is practically a thing of the past. Here in Pahiatua the association is better off than other centres in that it has its own camping grounds on Mr Alpass’ property at Konini. Here also is tho 1 association’s well known whare. With facilities such as these it is a matter for wonder just why this very good cause has been let slip. Some say that in. the main the parents are to blame in not co-operating with the committee. Our representative was given to understand that at times when meetings were called in the past, to which parents w r cre invited, the attendance was very poor. Be this as it may, from inquiries made no one can deny but that the Boy Scouts at one time enjoyed in full the benefits of the proper working of the movement and further that sooner than, let it be said that the association is a. failure so far as Pahiatua is concerned, parents with boys of age should see: that their, co-operation in again launching forth.should not be. lacking. .. ~
