For 30 sinkings tnc old slron o .,uiu of Santa Galdea del Cid lias been sold to its former feudal village. The castle is one of those guarding the hi. lh-cast frontier of Castile, am. in it are preserved many remains o. medieval architecture m the form o, arches, towers, turrets, slit-windows am, castellated wails. Though much of Unbuilding has fallen, the central part remains intact, including a magnified). Gothic hall with its vaulted ceiling. !3ome months ago the castle and grounds belonged to people who iuu. never visited tho district. A member of the village wrote to them requesting thc-i to name a price for the proper!, which would at least,, it was ckvimei.. serve a more useful purpose as grazin, ground for the village cattle. Thu owners replied that since it was of no use to them the sum of 50 pesetas—about 30s—seemed appropriate. .This v,as paid and the castle passed into th hands of the village. The inhabitants of the village have now taken to digging in the grounds in search of a treasure'believed to have been buried there many years ago.
