From Our Own Correspondent. Borough Council. The Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) presided over a special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council on Monday night, convened lor'the purpose of passing a resolution in connection with the conversion of certain borough loans. Also present were Councillors J. L. Christie, D. It. Barron, T Chaffev, and W. H. Head. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received Councillors Rangiheuea, Nye, Robinson and Middleton.” The Mayor explained that the Treasury had approved of a loan conversion scheme for the borough comprising an amount ol £50,400, and this had been approved and details were set out in the Order in Council which provided that the date of conversion would bo January 31. -1930. A comprehensive resolcAion was then placed before the meeting and carried. Wedding of Local Interest. A wedding of local interest took place at St. Joseph's Church. Buckle street. Wellington, on October 2S, when Kathleen Marv, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs J. F. Desmond, of Wellington, and ex-Fox-ton residents, was united to Patrick William, eldest son of Mrs J. Cooney, of Wellington. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father I). Milligan. The bride was escorted by her father, and wore a gown of ivory lace, her veil being fastened with a coronet of orango blossom. The bridesmaids were Miss Kathleen Cooney (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Margaret O'Sullivan (niece of the bride). The former wore a frock of apple-green taffeta, witli hat and shoes to tone, while the latter wore coral organdie with a headband of coral flowers and shoes to tone The duties of best man were carried out by Mr G. Hurley. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a reception was held. The bride’s mother was ntttr-' ed in a frock of ebony georgette with a silk coat, her hat being of black with touches of white. The bridegroom’s, mother wore an ensemble of Durban brown silk, with a brown and fawn hat. IChen Mr and Mrs r. W. Cooney left on their honeymoon, the latter was wearing a brown coat over a dress of brown and dusky pink floral silk, while her hat was of dusky pink. Surf and Life Savina Club.

The annual report submitted to the annual meeting of the Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club held on Wednesday evening staled that the nast season, generally, was a fairly quiet one, there being no first-class rescues and only a few minor ones. The weather on the whole favoured bathing and the beach was popular throughout the summer. The club’s membership kept at high level and there was always a good patrol on guard each Sunday and on the public holidays. Competition was keen for the Surf Cup, for which the club bad again to thank nil anonymous donor, and it was won this year by L. ,T. Thompson, vice-captain. A visit was made to the club by Mr Fishenden from tho Royal London Society of Life Saving, anrl a special demonstration was given him by a team at the beach. All methods of rescue were performed and Mr Fishenden spoke highly of the standard of the club’s efficiency. He gave tho members some helpful advice and his criticism of their work was appreciated. The club held various carnivals at the baths and these were well attended. The club was indebted to the Foxton Borough Council for the use of this institution, where much practice was carried out throughout the season. Several dances were held and were both social and financial successes, an innovation -being a combined ball, when the club joined with the Manawatu Rowing Club to hold a dance on unprecedented lines. This proved very successful. The club was grate;ful for the donation made by its patron, Mr Linklater, which wiped off the club’s debt on its pavilion. This, together with the funds raised from the various functions, had completely freed the club of debt and enables it to enter the new seasound financial position. Relationship with the head centre had been harmonious and the club was grateful for its assistance throughout the season. Tills body had intimated its intention of making a grant towards the club’s funds for which the club was grateful. Through the centre the club had been kept posted with the latest information from the New Zealand Council and under the able tuition of the instructor, Mr Robbie, and Captain Shaw, up-to-date methods of life-saving had been learned and the members’ Interest had been kept up. In conclusion the. club desired to thank all those who had given support and much-appreciated assistance during the past season, especially to those who had placed their rooms at tho disposal of the club free of charge for meeting purposes. Personal, The friends of Mrs G. Scaddcn, of Norbiton road, will regret to learn that she is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North hospital. The friends of Mrs J. Symon, of Gladstone street, will be pteased to learn that she has now returned home from the Palmerston North hospital whero she recently underwent an operation. Mr E. Crosby, of Wellington, has now taken up his duties as Stationmaster at Foxton.

Mrs AY. Robson and her daughter Shirley left Foxton on Monday for Tangimoana, where they will spend a week before proceeding to Taumarunui,

Mr and Mrs R. J. G. Collins, of Christchurch, who are at present on a motor tour of the North Island, spent the weekend in Foxton.
