The president expressed her very sincere regret at the impending departure from Apiti of Mrs Waterson. A new secretary will be appointed after next meeting when the vacancy on the committee will be filled. This concluded the business and at this stage a number of members including her mother, Airs Buckman, joined the meeting to farewell Mrs Waterson and to enjoy a friendly cup of tea’together. Airs W. A musical parcel game concluded with the parcel in tho possession of tho guest of honour. Airs Stanley on behalf of the committee and members voiced her regret at losing the services of a very willing and efficient secretary. Mrs Waterson has been- a committee member for some four and a half years and this has been her third year as secretary. For one year Airs Wateson was a vice-president. In concluding her remarks Airs Stanley said that Airs Waterson’s placo in the Institute vVill bo a hard c. 170 to fill. All's, AVaterson was presented with an , electric hot water jug with best wishes for her future welfare. All joined in according the guest musical honours. Mrs Waterson expressed her thanks to those present and said she deeply appreciated the kindness and good wishes of those who had given her such a very useful gift. She expressed the hope that Apiti W.I. would continue to flourish and that one and all would enjoy much hap-, piness. Before the gathering terminated all joined in singing Auld Lang Syne. . Personal. Air Stewart Swift, of AVellington, is nt present visiting his mother, Airs F. Swift. Airs A. F. Alclntyre is staying with her parents, Mr and Airs Geo. Duncan, prior to returning to her home at AVtiatatutu, Gisborne. Mr and Airs Keith Waterson and their daughters, Doreen and Phyllis, leave Apiti this week to make their future homo in Linton. Air and Airs T. Air and Mrs K. Cooper are on a holiday visit to Auckland. Air Coubray, of Wellington, necompaneid by his son and daughter, are the guests of Airs Arthur Prince. Dogs Poisoned. During the past week several dogs have succumbed to the effects of poisoning. Just how the dogs have been poisoned is a matter of some mystery which the police are investigating. Such occurrences are very distressing of dog lovers, and it. is difficult to understand how any person could bo guilty of inflicting a painful death on such faithful and valuable animals .as ■ farmers’ working dogs. After a few fine days, sheafing has commenced in many sheds. Heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon caused a halt in these activities. If telephone subscribers support the proposal it seems likely that the Apiti exchange service will be extended so that on certain hours on Sundays and departmental holiday’s the exchange will bo enen for, the convenience of subscribers.
