River Protection at Awapuni
HOSPITAL BOARD’S POSITION
The question “of the protection of the Palmerston North Hospital Board’s farm property at Awapuni from river erosion was again before tho board at its monthly meeting yesterday, when it was decided to hold the matter over till Mr. F. J. Ryder, a member of the board, has presented a report on work ho considers desirable, such report to be considered by the board’s farm committee and City Council representatives.
It was reported that representatives of the board had met representatives of the City Councu and the Palmerston North River Board’s engineer, and after full discussion it had been decided to recommend: —
(1) That tho Kairanga County Council should be approached to tako the necessary preliminary steps witk a view to having tho Palmerston North River Board district extended no meet the boundary of tho Manawatu-Oroua River Board district near Longburn.
' (2) That Messrs J. R. Hughes, E. Fisher and A. J. Phillipps should get in touch with tho trustees of tho Pillcn’s Estate to ascertain the position as regards a contribution towards protective works. It was mentioned that the Pillen’s Estate was tho adjoining owner above the golf links property and that the laud belonging to that estate was at present suffering most oi the erosion.
Mr. Ryder said that, if the board would spend £SO on proposals that he would make, he would refund the £SO if the work were washed away.
The board took action a 3 indicated at the outset.
