MANAWATU OPEN TOURNEY MANY NOTED PLAYERS ARE ENTERING The Manawatu Golf Club’s annual open tournament, which is being held at Hokowhitu, commencing next Saturday, is attracting much interest and there is sure to bo a big entry. J. R. Galloway, who returned from Christchurch on Sunday evening, lost little if any time in commencing the important work of giving the course the polish for which it la noted, and early on Monday morning there was grass Hying in every direction, not forgetting the “whiskers” that grow round the edges of the bunkers. “Jock” brought back some new sprinklers from Christchurch, and if the greens are likely to -be hard next Saturday he will get these into operation so that weil-played approaches aro given a reasonable chance of stopping on the greens.

Entries for the tournament are due to closo to-morrow, but later entries will be accepted as far as possible. Among the visitors who have already
