Eightieth Birthday of Local Citizen
MK. W. L. SIDDELLS HONOURED A happy function was held at 47 Lombard street, Palmerston North, when Mr. William Leo Siddellls’ SOth birthday was ’ celebrated. Over 80 relatives and friends, including his own children, grandchildren, and greatgrandehildi were present from the city, Wellington, Wanganui, Eltliam, Stratford, Otaki and Napier. The guest of tho evening is particularly well-known locally having resided in Palmerston North —and in fact, in tho same house which ho built —for 40 years. His parents came out from England in the late Bishop Selwyn original boat, the Southern Cro&3, and settled at Auckland, which Mr. Siddells claims as his native place. He celebrated his golden wedding 10 years ago but his wife predeceased him three years ago. Included amongst those present were his sister, Mrs. B. W. Patterson (Wellington) and his brother, Mr. J. Siddells, of Wanganui. Numerous telegrams of congratulation were received including those from a sister, Miss Alice Siddells (Wellington.) Over 50 sat down to dinner and the usual speeches of felicitation were tendered. The birthday cake was then cut by the eldest grandchild, Mr. Harold Corston, of Palmerston North. The guests were very happily entertained for the rest of the evening. Mr. Siddells has a family of seven, the daughters being Mrs. E. C. Corston (Palmerston North), Mrs. E. McCarty (Ashhurst) and Mrs. K. Fitzsimmons (Palmerston North), and the sons, Messrs. George Siddells (Palmerston North), Tom Siddells (Sydney), Edge Siddells (Palmerston North), and Cis Siddells (Auckland.) There are 14 grandchildren and five great-grand-cliildren.
