Huge Crowds Assemble For Stage Star’s Wedding
Two thousand white tickets admitted an eager throng to tho sides of St. Mary’s Basilica to seo tho brilliant spectacle of Miss Madge Elliott’s wedding with Mr ‘Cyril Ititehard, says an Australian paper; 300 blue tiekots wore tho ‘‘Open Sesame’' to tho guests' seats and 50 pink tickets paved the way for relatives and intimate friends to tho sacristy, where tho ceremony was performed. Outsido the cathedral more than 5000 people, almost all women, gathered in tho streets to obtain brief glimpses of tho wedding couplo as they enterod and left tho cathedral. Some were there for nearly seven hours. As tho crowd grew, barriers tvero erected in tho streets and before tho ceremony ended nearly 50 uniformed police were on duty. When tho bride and bridegroom arrived the crowd pressed forward, but tho barriers held. Inside the cathedral"equal curiosity was shown. Guests climbed on tho seats, but left them hurriedly when they realised their surroundings. Thero was a burst of clapping, quickly suppressed by officials, as Madgo Elliott walked slowly down tho aisle with her father. The tulle that fell softly from a coronet of pearls hid an almost shy smile, while her father stepped proudly, his beariug reminiscent of tho old French regime. Thero was an exciting few moments as Mrs Eitehard came through tho cathedral doorway to the steps. A strong gust of wind took hold of her train and veil and whirled them about her, but she was quickly assisted from the slight confusion.
In tho streets tho newly wedded couple cheerfully acknowledged the greetings of hundreds. Police held back the crowds as the car left.
