Miss A. Griffin Honoured

VALEDICTORY FUNCTION Miss M. McLagan was hostess at a very happy afternoon tea party at the Rosco tearooms yesterday, which was held for the purpose of farewelling Miss A. Griffin, matron of tho Old People’s Home at Awapuni. Miss Griffin leaves in about three weeks’ time to tako up a position in Christchurch. The table was decorated with Iceland poppies, asparagus fern aud violets.

Miss McLagan explained that tho function had been held to show the appreciation felt of the work that had been carried out by Miss Griffin. They were very sorry to lose her. Miss Griffin had made the old people feel they had a home, and they had beon happy under her. Miss Griffin was also to bo congratulated on having been a very good citizen,' said Miss McLagan, and she had been interested

in many organisations in Palmerston North. She also referred to the part Miss Griffin had taken in sport. The position Miss Griffin is to take up in Christchurch was promotion, said the hostess, and she carried with her the good wishes of thoso present in her new sphere. Mrs A. N. Seotter spoke briefly, saying how much Miss Griffin’s interest in St. Paul’s Methodist Church had been appreciated. Miss Griffin suitably replied, and rvas accorded musical honours and

cheers. She was presented with a small memento of the occasion.

Miss J. McGliie proposed a voto of thanks - to Miss McLagan for being responsible for the function, and this was warmly carried. Those present were Mesdames H. B’. Free, G. G. Haneox, E. M. Buthcrford, B. D. Knight, 11. Wingate, E. C. Barnett, J. H. North, J. A. Nash, A. E. Mansford, A. N. Scottcr, P. T. Putnam, J. W. Butherford, L. A. Ferguson, Misses J. McGhie, Banks, McGregor and V.
