Front Our Own Correspondent. The Te Kawau ladies’ basketball competition was advanced a further stage last Wednesday afternoon when both the local teams took part. The A team, Playing on the local ground, added another victory to their list when they defeated the Sandon elect by 7 goals to (!. The bitterly cold, easterly wind that prevailed made playing conditions a little unpleasant and only a few enthusiasts braved the elements to watch the match. The teams, when warmed up to their work, treated the spectators to a bright exhibition of the game. The Oroua Downs team was as follows: Goalies. P. Gray, 1. Procter, L. Fromm; 1 centres, R. Grammer, Mrs. S. Howard, M. Christensen; defenders, IC Dench, E. Harvey and M. Scott (captain). Miss J. Oyston controlled the came. Tho B team journeyed to Rongotea to try conclusions with tho Rongotea B team and were defeated after a fast game by 16 goals to 8. The home team’s good combination and better knowledge of the finer points of the game, no doubt won them the match. A good numbe* of enthusiasts witnessed the match in spite of the unpleasant weather. The Oroua team was as follows: Goalies, I. Rivers, E Dalgety, S. Grammer (captain); centres, M. Thompson, J. Marchant, E. Gray; defenders, I. Thompson. C. Gates, J... Cotton. Mr. Eades controlled the game. •Next Wednesday afternoon the A team Will journey to Awahuri and the B team will meet Glen Oroua on tho local ground. Golf. The draw for the Oroua Downs Goli Club’s ladies’ stroke handicap to be placed'on Saturday afternoon is as fallows:—Mrs: F. Raikes and Mrs. A. Hobbs, Mrs." A. Nichols and Miss L. Fromm, Mrs. J. Veale and Mrs. R. Shailer, Mrs. R. Reay and Mrs.' E. Conlan, Miss J. Oyston and Miss J. Raikes, Mrs. J. Connell and partner. The draw for tho men’s stroke competition to : bo played over the week-end is as-follows: —R. Reay and A. T. Nichols, J. Conlan and R. A. Nichols, E. Conlan and M. Moffat, M, Mills and J. Veale, W. Gordon and J. Connell, L. K. Moffat and W. Me After, J. .Conlan and J. Reay. The results of the last three week-'ind men’s competitions‘played on the Oroua Downs- links were as follow;—R. A. Nichols' 76 net, J. Reay 73 net, and J. Connell 67 net.
