■Owing to a mistake, the nomination paper of a candidate for the Waitcmata County Council, posted at Waitakere on April 20, was not delivered before tho closing time of the nominations on tho following Friday and, in consequence, the returning officer has excluded the would-be candidate from nomination.

Following a disturbance in his billiard room, Joseph Hall, aged 41, called in a police constable, but from the story revealed in Court at Wellington yesterday ho lost his head during a scuffle with a man When accompanying the constable to the street, and when the constable pulled the man away he attacked him, with the result that Hall himself was in the dock. The charge was one of asaulting a constable in the execution of his duty, and he was also charged with using obscene language. He denied both Charges, but the Magistrate said that the evidence of accused himself showed that he had lost his head. He had probably been unreasonably treated by some men in the saloon, but that was no reason for endeavouring to batter a man who was trying to assist him. The story told showed that tho affair was all tho outcome of the behaviour of several men under the influence of liquor.
