Sympathy with Mr. F. T. M. Kissel, the Government's chief electrical engineer, in the death of his wife, was expressed at last evening's meeting of the Palmerston North City Council.

Last night the Takaro Progressive Association pafesed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs F. Usmar, who was a member of the organisation.

Liganrd, Australian representative of the State Church of Denmark (Lutheran Church), when ho visited Denmark recently. Mr. Ligaard, whose headquarters are in Brisbane, is a through passenger to Sydney by tho Maunganui, which reached Wellington yesterday. King Christian asked Mr. Ligaard to convoy his greetings to the Danes in Australia and New Zealand.

Rear-Admiral F. Burges . Watson, who on Friday relinquished command of tho Now Zealand Naval Station, left Auckland last night for Sydney, on route to South Africa and England. His active career in the navy is over and he intends to live in the South of England, but he remarked yesterday that he hoped to return to New Zealand with his wife and probably live here for two or three years. In a farewell message to tho officers and men, ho said that the last three years had been the happiest of his 35 years’ service.

Owing to rather serious troublo with tho sight of his left eye, Rev. Father A. J. Cullen, S.M., has been compelled to retire from the rectorship of St. Patrick's College, Wellington. Father Cullen will tako up duties which will not impose so much strain on his eyes. His successor is Rev. Father -A. Lysaght, S.M., who is an ex-student of St. Patrick’s College. He was ordained. a priest in 192-1, and has had teaching experience at Blessed Peter Chanel’s College in New South Wales. Father Lysaght is a graduate of Victoria College, Wellington, aud also studied at the university in Queensland.
