Prom Our Own Correspondent. Although the schools were closed on Anzac Day owing to the extension of the Easter vacation, the Pahiatua District High School still held their annual commemoration service, it being held on Thursday, the breaking-up day. About .■three hundred,children assembled around the flag-staff and following the singing of ■the National Anthem they were addressed by a returned and disabled soldier, Mr. M. Lawson of Mangamalre. Jubilee Arrangements,

Representatives from school committees and the Borough and County Councils attended a meeting held last week to make final arrangements in connection with the coming Jubilee celebrations. The following decisions were made: (1) The local business people be asked to observe a public holiday on Monday, May Gth; (2) On Friday evening a fireworks display is to be given and it is going to be arranged with th'e Power board for street illumination; (3) On Monday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, the town children' are to attend a picture matinee of a selected programme, Including a short address on the object of the jubilee; (4) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.ni. a procession of decorated vehicles led by the Pahiatua Municipal Band; (5) Prom a . p.m. to 4 p.m, the country children to attend the matinee and tho town children to join in a sports gathering. - A. free light luncheon is to be provided for the country children. The Bush Rugby Union is to be asked to put on some fixture on Wednesday, May Sth. The committee to supervise the procession is as follows: Messrs W. K. Richardson, W; H. March and W. T. Brown with power' to add. The following executive committee was appointed: Messrs J. D. Wilson, "W. H. Murch, W. R. Richardson, and G. G. Taylor. An opinion was also expressed that all school committees work in with these arrangements. Easter Wedding.

St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Pahiatua,' was the scene of a very pretty wedding on the beautiful spring morning ot Saturday, April 20th, when Florence Edna younger daughter of Mr. E, P. Badger, of Pahiatua and the late Mrs, Badger, was married to William Stanley, second son oi Mrs. M. Jones of Port Chalmers and the late-Mr. Jones. Rev. V. A. -Blanch! performed tho, ceremony and Mjss N. Irving played the wedding music. The orida who entered the church on her father’s arm, wore a graeefful gown of magnolia satin, made on .Princess lines and failing into a long train at the back. The nock and sleeves were interlaced with seed pearls and tho beautiful veil of parchment toned silk net and cobweb lace which covered all was caught to the sides of the head with posies, of orange, blossoms. She carried a bouquet of deep cream and white sultaius interlaced with mai'den-hair fern. The two. bridesmaids in attendance wci;e Misses Ivy Pox (chief), and Jessie Piper with little Valmal Burr as flower girl, who wore a Victorian frock of Nile green velvet with a bandeau of the same shade in her hair. Tlio bridesmaids were dressed allko in attractive gowns of parchment witchcraft lace made on fitting lines and falling in short trains at the back, and finished with long Nile green velvet sashes. Dainty green Dolly Vavden hats completed their toilette. Mr. Allan Walker, of Pahiatua, was best man and Mr. Nelson Richaitlson was groomsman. The reception following was held at the Foresters’ Hall where the guests were received by the father and sister of tho bride, Mr. E. P. Badger and Mrs. G. Bourke (Elthajn). The- latter was wearing a model gown of wine and gold uncrushable crepe with hat to match and carried a bouquet of dahlias to tone. After tbo wedding breakfast the. guests adjourned to Mr. Badger’s residence to view the many beautiful wedding gifts._ The honoymoon is to be spent in the Wanganui and. Rotorua districts.

Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dodds. Tiraumea Street, left on Thursday last for Wellington to catch ti»e “Rangltata'’ en. route to England. They propose being absent from Pahiatua for about six months and will tour various parts of England and pav visits to relatives during the trip. Mr, and Mrs. W. Ransom were visitors to Pabiiertson .North for the Easter Mrs. Ransom spending several days thero and returning on Tuesday last. Mr. ancl Mrs. L. Lovelock spent tlio holidays with the latter’s parents at Hatuma, Hawke’s Bay. Mrs. Cornelius, Wellington, paid a visit to her home town during tho holidays, staying with her mother Mrs. W. T. Boyd, Wakeman Street.

Another daughter to visit her parents then was Mrs. Dalgleish, who styed with Mr. and Mrs. '\V. K. Richardson, Tararua Street. , . _ ; Another popular visitor was Miss is. iv North, who was for some years on Hie staff of the local High School. During her stay here she was the guest of Miss Gregory, AVakeman Street.

Horse Sports. The crowd that were present at the Paliiatua racecourse on Easter Monday were not there for the usual horse racing but for “Horse Sports”, which was the first meeting'of its kind, to bo held in this district. Notwithstanding counter attractions and threatening weather a large and enthusiastic number of patrons a.ttended, and this was of great encouragement to the officials, who ran off the different events smoothly and successfully. Cigarette Race; G. James 1. The Points Prize was Avon by E. Olsen with 10 points (three wins and a third —all with the same horse). B. Olsen runner-up 8 points- Tho big hat competition was won by B. Harvev 3, G. Scales 2, M. Reiclienbach 3. A matter that gave great satisfaction to tho promoters was that the competitors had come from far afield as well as local riders. Some-of tho visitors especially wore fine riders and provided worth Avhile sport for the onlookers. Amongst the Districts represented were Palmerston, Dannevirke, Alfredton, Masterton, AVoodville. Kumeroa, Maurlceville, Pongaroa, etc. etc. Golf.

Despite threatening weather conditions there was an enthusiastic attendance of new and old members at the official opening of the Pa hiatus Goif Club's 1335 season. In declaring the season open tho president. Mr. G, Harold Smith wished the club every success in the future. As one of the most popular members was to be married in a few days, Miss Florence Badger, lie presented her, on behalf ol her fellow lady members, with a clock, wishing her evei-y happiness and good fortune. Muoical honours were accorded the recipient, who suitably replied. During the afternoon a Canadian Foursome, over nine holes, Avas played, the Avinners being Miss B Bwainson and S. K. Biddells, there being a Lie for second betAveen Mrs. S._ K. Siddells and G. Nelson and Mrs. R. Sinclair and B. Mills. The green Avas in excellent order and the recent improvements Averc favourably commented upon. Sympathy is felt for Mr. Eric Olson in tho collapse and death of his valuable horse "Waitangi” in one of the stalls at the racecourse. Mr. Olsen Avon the up© ll jump on “Waitangi” and also rodent in tho clown competition after Avhich it Avas placed in a stall. It suddenly broke down and Avas dead before anything- could be done to save its life.
