Excitement has died away at the Metropolitan links after the stirring events of the open championship last week. The first round of the amateur championship —match play, knock-out, 36 holes —was played to-day, but tho huge crowd rvas missiug. The few who attended were mainly interested in McLean, the brilliant Scottish champion, who played Mick Ryan.
