New Zealander Killed in Air Crash
INSTRUCTOR TO BOMBAY CLUB. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Monday, 7.10 p.m. BOMBAY, Nov. 19. Flight-Lieutenant A. K. H. Binley, a New Zealander, instructor to the Bombay Flying Club, was fatally injured in a crash at Juhu aerodrome. Binley died of injurios when a ’plane piloted by an Englishman named Ring crashed. He recently conducted an instructional flight of four young Indian members of the club to England and back. Binley formerly served in the Air Force and was a clever boxer. He played in the Rugby trial for the All Blacks’ tour in 1927. His mother is at present in Melbourne, eii route to visit him.
Whitehead and Nicholl’s Flight Received Monday, 1,1.30 p.m, SYDNEY, Nov. 19. Whitehead and Nicholl have been advised by tho Weather Bureau that there is still a cyclonic disturbance over the Tasman, which is not likely to clear for two or three days. The aviators have deferred their flight accordingly.
Air Race From Melbourne to Cootamundra Received Monday, 8.15 p.m. SYDNEY’, Nov. 19. At an air pageant at Cootamundra today the chief event was an air race from Melbourne to Cootamundra, 286 miles, for which there were six starters, including the Stodarts. All competitors had reached their destination by 2.30 p.m., but the winners are not to be announced until the times are officially checked. First prize in the speed section was £l5O. The first to arrive was H. J. Broadbent, flying a D.H. Moth. He left Melbourne at 11.7 a.m. and arrived at Cootamundra at 1.30. The remaining five arrived at brief intervals thereafter, as follow: G. Goon, C-. Butler, Squadron-Leader Stodart, K. Farmer and J. Cook.
Belated Centenary Fliers Received Monday, 11.30 p.m, SYDNEY, Nov. 19. The aviators Brook and Miss Lay left Charleville to-day for Bourke, where they will stay overnight, resuming to-morrow for Melbourne. Master of Sempill’s Flight Received Monday, 7.10 p.m. KOEPANG, Nov. 19. The Master of Scmpill has left for Bathurst. Miss Freda Thompson SYDNEY, Nov. 19. Miss Freda Thompson, who recently flew from England to Australia, landed at Cootamundra, where an aviation pageant will be held to-day.
