Lord and Lady Bledisloe will return to Wellington on June 1G after three months' residence in Auckland. Prior to going south they will spend a few days quietly at Mount Mauuganui. They will return to Auckland shortly before Christmas, to bo in residence during the stay of tho Duke of Gloucester, who will be their guest at Government House. Mr. W. J. Rummell, of Waitarere Beach, has been appointed an inspector of sea-fishing under the Fisheries Act, 1908. The appointment of Mr. P. S. Foster, M. 8., Ch.B., M.R.0.5., L.R.C.P., F.R.C.S., to be a member of the Medical Council, has been gazetted. Guests at the Hotel Imperial include Messrs A. E. Owen (Tnihapc), D. P. Shepherd (Mastcrton), Hooson (Blenheim), G. Mackissack (Wellington), J. H. Gormlv (Wellington), J. R. Martin (Wanganui) and H. G. Bcddcll (Wellington). ( , At Cambridge (England) the degree of doctor of laws was conferred on Mr. .Neville Chamberlain. A similar honour was conferred on his brother, Sir Austin Chamberlain, in 1920 and on his father in IS9-1. —British Official Wireiess. Mr. Charles Reed, of Palmerston North, who was seriously injured in u motor accident near Hastings on Monday night, is improving, although it is likely ho will be in hospital for some weeks. Mr. Reed is in a private hospital in Hastings. An unusual tribute to the respect and esteem in which tho late Mr. E. J. Mears, a solicitor, of Hamilton, who died on Thursday, was held, was paid by a representative gathering of barristers and solicitors at the Hamilton Supreme Court before Mr. Justice Fair yesterday morning. Mr. F. A. Swurbrick, president of the Hamilton Law Society, characterised deceased 'as one of the most honoured of their colleagues, a modest, unassuming man whose outstanding virtues had raised him to the highest reputation as a solicitor and citizen.
