RELIEF WORKERS GET POLICE ADVICE Leaders in the N.U.W.M. in Palmerston North yesterday received the following correspondence signed by Police Inspector Eawle: — “You are hereby notified that no procession or demonstration will bo allowed. to take place in or upon any of the streets within the city of Palmerston North from this date and until further notice. ” A special meeting of the Palmerston North City Council was held yesterday morning, tho Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) presiding. Others present, were Crs. W. B. Tenncnt, G. Tremaine, H. B. Free. J, Hodgcns, W. Mouldey, A. A. Langley, E. L. C. Ait.chison, and W. H. Brown. An apology for absence was received from Cr. W. B. Cameron. The .folowing resolution was passed unanimously: *“That pursuant to the provisions of Section 175 (4) (1) of the Munipical Corporations Act, 1933, the City Council has definitely decided that all traffic in the nature of a- procession, whether vehicular or pedestrian, or partly vehicular and partly pedestrian, or of any typo whatsoever, shall not, without tho consent of the Mayor, be permitted in, along or upon any street or public place within the city of Palmerston North.” An advertisement calling public attention to this resolution appears in to-day’s issue of the “Times.” ANTI-CAMP COUNCIL. LETTER FEOM MAYOR ' A special meeting of the Anti-Camp Council was held last evening for the purpose of considering a letter received in reply to a request' from the AntiCamp Council, asking the Mayor to receivo a mass deputation this morning from the council. Tho Mayor, in reply, stated that he would be pleased to receive a deputation of up to six unemployed who must be local unemployed; also that there should be no procession or demonstration After a discussion it was unanimously agreed that the letter lie on the table.
