Tokoraiigi’s Schoolmaster

AND CHILDREN A farewell evening in tlic form of a social and dance was tendered to Mr Warner, who has been headmaster of the Tokorangi Schol for the past three years, at the Maori meetinghouse last Friday evening. Parents and children of the school, besides many friends from other parts, gathered to pay their compliments to Mr Warner, who had proved a very popular teacher. Items given by Miss A. Green and Messrs 11. Tawhiri and H. Moses were enjoyed between dances, also the children of the school sang appropriate songs, besides some of the Maori boys giving a haka, which caused great merriment. The children presented Mr Warner with a suede leather tobacco pouch, while Mr Barnett, on behalf of the committee and householders, presented him with a gold wristlet watch. Words of appreciation were spoken by Mr T. F. Iwakau who, on behali of the natives, expressed thanks for the interest shown towards the children and all' school affairs; also of the great improvement in the ■ environment of the school which has taken place during Mr Warner’s term. Mr Barnett (chairman) and other members of the committee spoke aerv highly of Mr Warner’s work as schoolmaster, and his interest in the children’s sports. Everybody wished Mr Warner all happiness and the best,, of luck in his new appointment. Mr Warner ably replied, expressing his regret at leaving the district, and thanked the children for their kind thoughts. A delightful supper was served by the ladies, after which dancing continued until midnight, when all joined hands to Sing ‘Auld Lang Syne.” Thanks are due to Mrs G. Burgess and Messrs G. Petersen and A. Woodcock for the orchestra, which was greatly appreciated by all.
