From Our Own Correspondent. All Saints’ Children's Annual Ball. An event which had been the topic pf conversation lor weeks previously, took place ill the Town ilall at Fox ton on Tuesday evening, wnen the All Saints’ Ladies' Guild held their annual children s plain and fancy dress ball. The crowds of children assembled ill their gay fancy dresses under a canopy of bright multicoloured radiating streamers. The success of the function was undoubtedly due to the arduous efforts of ltie members of the Ltidies’ Guild, and ospec-My Miss N. Woods, the energetic secretary, who left no stone unturned ill an endeavour to make the bail an event of note. The proceedings opened at 7.110 o'clock with the grand march, and from thence until 9.30 the little ones spent the evening in a whirl of joy and excitement dancing to the strains of delightful music supplied by a professional orchestra. The lollowing were the prize winners in the fancy dress competition: Most original gill,Juno Thomas, as French doll; most original boy, Owen Kollet (Moutoaj, as "Whiskers Blake"; most economical gin, Ruth Coley, as kewpie; most economical boy, Brian McGee, as woolpack; family group, Noel, Elsa and Brian Rankin, as llawiians; special prize for most economical, -Mary Fryer, as daisy. At 9.30 the children were provided with a bountiful supper in . the supper room where the tables were artistically decorated with Iceland poppies and greenery and here the little ones did full justice to the good things provided. The dancing iloor, which was in excellent condition, was then handed over to the grownups, and a more enjoyable evening could not have been wished for by the big crowd of dancers who completely filled the spacious hall. Parishioners and friends were present from all parts of the district and the happy spirit prevailing- throughout the evening made the event one to ho looked back upon with pleasure. From the dress circle of the hall the scene below was witnessed by a large number who stayed until a late hour, enjoying the fun as much as those on. the iloor. The profuse . supply of brightly-coloured paper hats, confetti and throw-outs added a distinct touch of carnival to the function and the fun waxed. fast and furious into the early hours of the morning. A most pleasing feature of the evening was the exhibition of ballroom dancing given at intervals by Mr. A. Clay and Miss K. Synnott, of Otaki. Mrs. F. Laft'erty, of Palmerston North, rendered the song “Annie Laurie.” During the evening a waltzing competition which was judged by Mr. Clay and Miss Synnott, was won by Mr. ,1. Proctor and Mrs. Cecil Robinson. Novelty dances were held, tlie winners being as follow: Laughing statue dance, Mr. H. Kingsley and Miss G. Coley; Monte Carlo, Mr. J. Thane and -Miss P. King. A novelty storm dance which was held proved a popular innovation. Mr. F. Woods made an excellent M.C., and with Captain Middleton assisting with the children, things went with a happy swing all the evening. Extras for dancing were supplied by Mrs. M. A. Ross and Messrs J. T. Edwards, T. East and M. Winiata. Proclaimed by one and ail to be the happiest social function of the season to be held locally, the event closed at a late hour with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Among the many present were: Mesdames M.
