Obituary

CHARLES EDWARD ROBINSON. One of Foxton’s oldest and most highly respected residents, in the person of Mr. Charles Edward Robinson, died at his residence, Claremont, Lady’s Mile, on Saturday after a lingering illness at tho ago of 66 years. Tho deceased, who was well-known throughout tho Manawatu district, was a member of the old pioneering family of farmers, being the seventh son of the late Capt. Francis Robinson, who was prominently connected with the early settlement of the district.

Born at “Herrington,” Foxton, in 1567, the late Mr. Robinson received his early educated at the Foxton public school and subsequently at the Wellington College. As a young man ho was a keen and enthusiastic polo player and was a promiuent footballer. Always keenly interested in liorso racing he at odo time owned several horses which he raced, and on occasions even rode himself on the tracks. For many years the late Mr. Robinson was actively connected with the Foxton Racing Club and at the time of his death occupied the position of vice-president of the club, of which he was a most popular member. He was also a member of tho Manawatu (Foxton) racecourso trustees. Although he never took an active part in public matters, the deceased was always keenly interested in the affairs of the town and district and was always a generous supporter of any deserving cause.

In 1895 lie married Clara Ellen, seventh daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henry Symons, of Foxton. His widow is left to share her loss with her three sons, Messrs. Charles Cecil, Edward Herston and Maurice Fredrick, all of Foxton. Deceased is survived by one brother Mr. J. W. Robinson, of Foxton, and three sisters, Mesdames E. S. Thynnc and Willie Robinson, of Foxton. and Hadficld, of Wanganui,

The funeral which takes place afternoon, leaves his late residence at 2 p.m. for All Saints’ Church and the Foxton cemetery.
