An entertainment which was both bright and novel was staged in the hall on Monday evening when local residents again had the pleasure, after a period of 15 years, of listening to the Jubilee Bell Ringers. Mr. A. E. Lupton, who conducted proceedings, as on the occasion of the previous visit, is himself a versatile artist of undoubted musical ability combined with a happy knack of keeping the entertainment varied and lively throughout- , „ Mr. Stanley Hughes, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hughes, of Nikau, had the misfortune to cut his knee rather badly with a slasher on Monday last, necessitating his removal to tho Pahiatua hospital and the insertion of several stitches. The wound is reported to be making satisfactory progress. The Defence Rifle Club held its annual meeting on Wednesday evening when there was a fair attendance of members. The balance sheet showed a very satisfactory credit balance on the year s working and was adopted. Tho election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mr. F. C. Ebbett (re-elected); deputy president, Mr. W. G. Eising (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Day, and Messrs J. Sargeant, W. Day and H. Sowry. The date for opening was fixed for Saturday, December 2, and it was decided that in future all practices begin at 1 p.m. The possibility of procuring a cup for competition was discussed and it was decided that if funds permit, this would bo done, the cup to go to the marksman putting on tho highest aggregate score for the season.• Miniature Rifle Shooting. The Jones and Collinson shields were shot for on the Longburn. range on Thursday evening. Three teams (Bulls, Ohakea and Awahuri) drew with 488 points, and in the shoot-off tho Bulls Club was successful in winning tho coveted Jones shield. The following are the scores:— _ ~ . Bulls: T.
