Byrd's Second Antarctic Expedition
FIRST VESSEL LEAVING BOSTON TO-DAY

Coaled and provisioned, tlie Bear of Oakland will leave on Monday, heading an expedition into Little America, Rear-Admiral Richard E. Byrd announced on Saturday night, to be followed a few days later by the Pacific Fir, which is expected to overtake the Bear of Oaklanu at the Canal Zone, where the first stop will be made before the sec-ond-leg of the trip to the ships’ base in New Zealand. The Bear of Oakland will carry a picked crew and scientists, their equipment and a quantity of food supplies. The Pacific Fir is loaded with the greater share of the items needed for Polar survey.
