Garrison Band Carnival

At 3 p.m. on Wednesday next, September 37, the Garrison Band carnival will be opened by his Worship the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford, at the Empire hall. On that afternoon at 3 o’clock there wiJl be a baby show for babies under six months and under 12 months for prizes presented by Mr. J. A. Nash, 7.1. P. Those wishing' to enter their young hopefuls should make their applications early to Mr. J. H. White, secretary, Baltic of New Zealand buildings. On Wednesday evening somo delightful Irish dances will be staged and on Thursday evening, the 2Sth, there will bo an exhibition of fancy dancing by Miss Gwen Gibbs’ pupils. On Friday evening, the a picked squad from the Palmerston North Boys’ High School will give an exhibition of physical culture. On Saturday afternoon, the 30th, there will be a competition tor plain scones, plain and butter sponge cakes, sponge roll and pikelets, and good prizes will bo awarded the winners. For those who like dancing the supper room provides a first-class floor and accommodation for this pastime, and dancing may be indulged in all the evening at the ridiculous low price of one penny petdance. On Saturday evening, September 30, there will be a Coster dance and the charge will be 3d per dance. This is going to be a huge success. There is no charge tor admission lo the carnival so it is hoped that the citizens will come along in large numbers and join in the fun and frolic that will lie provided in plenty, A sheep has been kindly donated by Mr. Joseph Binklater, 71.1’., and a woight guessing competition will be held. The committee have arrangements well in hand and promise patrons tliat when once they enter the hall they trill be imbued with the carnival spirit which will banish all memories of the depression. The Garrison Band will feature a. torchlight procession on the Wednesday evening and all that is required to make tho carnival a great success is tho attendance of the citizens. Citizens do not forget the Garrison Band during this carnival. It has not forgotten you in dispensing music.
