Daffodil Day To-day
Reminiscent* of a Continental flower market, the workshop at tho Technical School presented a lovely sight last evening when visited by a member of the “Times” staff. Many hands were at work unpacking, sorting and arranging blooms of evory description in readiness for Daffodil Day, the annual street effort for tho Palmerston North Technical School, which takes place today. Generous offerings had come from all over tho district and from as far away as Masterton, Otaki, Turakina, and many other centres, and the air was filled with sweet scents from the masses of freesias, hyacinths, boronia, stock, wallflowers and other fragrant spring blooms that gave glad welcome. Daffodils were in proud array, filling great tubs and basins, but not in such profusion as in former years owing to the early season that has been experienced. And strangely enough frecsias have more than filled the gap, while early ranunculus, anemones, tulips and flowering shrubs contribute their beauty to a magnificent display. All day long the busy workers had been fashioning the daintiest buttonholes, which covered long tables in readiness for sale. Many more flowers will arrive this morning, and with every prospect of fine wca-ther the sales should be a record. Produce and cakes in plentiful supply will also be on sale from a stall in the Square.
