Success Crowns Amateurs In Comedy

The Palmorston North Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society repeated “The Best People,” a threc-aet comedy, to another enthusiastic audience at the Opera House last evening. Exceedingly well presented, tho society can proudly score up another urehicvcment in its long list of successes. For an amateur production little has been left for criticism, -and much has been earned in the way of commendation and congratulation. A comedy is as humorous as the principals make it, and their success or otherwise is reflected in the appreciation of the audience. Last evening merriment was kept at a high pitch, demonstrating that the parts had been “put over” to tho complete satisfaction of the large assembly, which demonstrated its approval in rounds of unstinted applause. The comedy is a particularly bright one, brimful of diverting incidents, and tho principals arc given considerable scope. The cast has been admirably chosen, and although he is behind tho scenes, Mr Fred Cousins will be able to “walk off tho stage” to-morrow night with the satisfaction that he has produced and directed a veritable “hit” in amateur shows. Tho curtain will fall for-mally-for the last time this evening, but many feel that ‘ ‘The Best Peoplo” can bear reproduction at somo other time in the near future. Maybe the society will be able to see its way to do this, but in any case, an overflowing audienco is assured for this evening.
