Taikorea
From Our Own Correspondent. The school committee met on Thursday evening, there being present Messrs K. Hill (chairman), E. Print, F. Print, JE. Cornwall, A. Castle and the headmaster, Mr. J. C. Ward. The secretary reported that he had been advised by the Education Board that they would grant a new ilagpole. It was decided to set this in a concrete block on the lawn. In order to keep the lawn in order it was decided to procure a roller, the work of making which was entrusted to Mr,. A. Smith. A successful meeting of the Taikorea Sports Club was held, Mr. It. Hill presiding over quite a large and enthusiastic number of members. The chief business on hand was to attend to the opening of the cricket season. It was decided to field a team and the secretary was instructed to purchase immediately new gear. The subscription was lowered to Ds. A vote of thanks, carried by acclamation, was passed expressing the club's gratitude to Messrs Oreawens. for the unrestricted use of their field last season. Thanks were also due to Mr. M. Lyons for the loan of his roller. For the .commencement of this season's play it was decided to accept Mr. Carroll’s offer of a paddock and practices will be accordingly held there each week-end. Mr. H. O'Connor was unanimously elected club captain. Tennis, which took on so well last year, is tliis season going to be most popular as four more private courts have btfin lead down, now making at total of seven. It is hoped to make a start with play in several weeks.
Mr. W. Prior, local factory manager, and the director, Mr. A.' S. E. Algar, journeyed to Wanganui on Tuesday to observe the grading of locally produced cheese for which a high grading mark was given.
