Social and Dance at Terrace End
Under the auspices of the Terrace End committee of the Labour party, a social and dance took place in the Coronation hall on Friday evening last, this being tho end of the first series of these functions. The hall was packed to its utmost. Tho control of the dance w'as in the capable hands of Messrs Farmer, Major and Esau. The president, Mr. R. Summers, and Mr. L. Yule, the energetic secretary, ably assisted by an enthusiastic committee, left nothing undone to briilg about one of the best gatherings held this season. The ladies’ committee ably looked after the supper portion, all being well catered for. A professional orchestra provided dance music, old-time numbers being well received, by everyone.' During the evening several items were contributed as follow: Miss Irene Olliver’s pupils; Mr. Alick Fleck and Miss Edith Olliver; Misses Nola and Betty Ford, Alick Fleck and Edith Olliver; Messrs Key and Phillips; Mr. Lund and his doll (Jerry). Supper was handed round by, willing helpers, after which tho president returned thanks to all who had attended and trusted one and all had thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The winners of the lucky Gay Gordons were Miss B. Gulliver and Mr. Lyman, and the Monte Carlo waltz Miss Wilde and Mr. Knowles. Two pupils of Miss Olliver, Anna Wilde and Joyce Kearns, gave a tap dance which had to be repeated. Miss Vera Olliver and Miss Wildo also gave an Irish jig. The singing oi “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow’’ and “Auld Lang Syne” brought the pleasant and successful evening to a close.
