The' annual meeting of subscribers to tho. Muncipal library was held. on. Thursday • evening when the mayor (Mr J. ,Elder) 'presided over a fair attendance. , The report' on the yenr-s activities stated that the number of subscribers stood at 62 as against. 70 for the previous year, Thanks were duo to Mesdames J. M. Graham, G. B; DcAth, G. W. Slack, P. Clark, Miss Sheen, Messrs J. Elder,. A. H. Hustwick and G. Walthcr for donations of books and magazines and also to tlie Woodvillo County Council for a donation of £5. The mayor said .that ho thought the decrease in the number of subscribers was . due to the fact, that less new books had'- been put on the shelves during tho past ■ year, and also that several papers had been taken from the reading files. This had been done as an economy measure in cases- where certain papers covered the same district Tho Mayor also- slated that ther Council had decided this year not .to strike a library rate, ‘but were going to transfer .an amount equal' to the rate had-it-been struck, from the general, account to the library account'and that he could assure, tho subscribers that the library • wouldnot suffer it any way by too ■-fact that a library‘ irate ' had not been struck. Ho: also congratulated tho librarian, Mrs, Spackmriii, bn-' tho excellent' manner 'lit which she had looked after tlm interest of the library,..and Miss Gothard for her services as .Secretary. see whether a benefit picture piogiumme could bo arranged. End of Term Social. The pupils of the local High School held their erid of term social.and dance on Thursday evening, there being a very large attendance of parents, pupils and friends. A very happy time was spent in daclng arid games. Music for the dancing was kindly supplied by Mesdames R. R. Johnston and H. J. McPeak, while tho duties o'f M.C. were carried out in an ■able manner by Frank Blatchford and Brian Patterson. A dainty supper was dispersed by the High school girls. During an interval in the dancing, Mr. H. Dorrington, thanked those present for their ever-willing support to school functions, which he said was sincerely appreciated,.
