- From Our Own Correspondent. • School Fancy Dress Ball Unqualified . Success. A record number of adults and children attended the eighth annual fancy dress ball of the Asbhurst school last Friday evening- in the -public hall, which had been gaily- decorated with: red and yellow streamers, and. balloons of every conceivable hue, while nikau palms and fruit blossoms ,ori the -walls- made ;a wonderful setting for;, the many- novel and picturesque, dresses. 1 of the children. As usual; the.'children entered,into the spirit of the occasion, in joyous abandon, and under the "directon ' of the headmaster, Mr. H. Fenwick; Miss J.' Wilkinson and'.Mr.' F: Orgias,/.went -.through .a. delightful pro-j gramme of folk, dances and round dances in a 'manner that spoke eloquently of the excellent ’tuition received' and which reflected .the. greatest credit on the. staff. Wilkinson and Mr. F. Orgias for their untiring work in coaching 'the children in the various dances. In declaring tho ball open, Mr. Sumner voiced the hope that the children would have an enjoyable time and go home happy even though tired. The proceedings then opened with the grand march in which well over 109 children took part, the leaders being Beth Romley and Frank An near. Seniors: "Polonaise,”- in winch the-leaders were Joan Donaldson and Leslie Thicket; - “Tasmanian - Waltz,”. “Monto Carlo Fox Trot,” "I.ithouanlan Folk Dance,” “Valuta,” “La Rinka,” “Polka,” "Cochin China,” "One Step,” “Canoe Dance,” "Mountain March,” “Fox Trot,” “Galoped©,”: “Yaleta,” “Tasmanian Walts.” The'-winners of the Monte Carlo fox trot were Kitthleen Foot and Peter Murphy,' while the lucky .spot one step was won. by. Gladys Jepsen and Leo Smith. The work of "providing- sUpper for such a largo.-number was a-formidable task, but with the .generous response made by parents and'friends plus-the efficient organisation of- the" ladies’, committee, a bounteous supper was served to- all.
