Two Queen Carnivals in the City

BUT CAMPAIGNS WILL NOT CLASH. Palmerston North is to have not only one, but two queen carnivals, if present projects can be materialised. In addition to the one which the Rotary Club intends to sponsor for the purposes of relief, the hockey enthusiasts of the district are launching a similar drive for funds, although on a smaller scale. A meeting of delegates from all clubs affiliated with the Manawatu Hockey Association was held last evening to discuss means of raising funds for sending a representative team to Auckland, and also to establish a nucleus for the recently inaugurated insurance scheme. Mr. B. Paleuski was elected to the cha'ir Mr. AV. Turner officiating as secretary and Mr. J. McGavin treasurer. Representatives were also present fiom all clubs except Massey College, who were unable to send a delegate. It was decided to act on a previous decision to hold a queen carnival in the city, the campaigning for tho various queens to bo started to-morrow. Members agreed that the projected carnival in aid of the relief funds would not in any way clash with the hockey carnival, as the former will not eventuate for several months, ihc hockey campaign, on the other hand, will conclude on July 2S. It was decided that each club shall nominate a queen, and the successful candidate will be crowned on the concluding night of the bazaar which w ill terminate' the competition.

Nominations for the queens will close on AA r ednesday, July 5. A'oting will take tho form of penny tickets, and a comprehensive programme of entertainments have been arranged for by the various clubs.
