New Rotary Year Ushered In
ANNUAL MEETING HELD Tho Palmerston North Rotary Club held its annual meeting yesterday, the president, Rotarian \V. G. Black, being in the chair. On the motion of tho president, seconded by vice-president AV. S. Carter, the annual report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. In reinstalling Mr Black to the office of 'president;, Rotarian J. Murray, inauguration officer, paid .tribute to the outstanding work of Mr Black. His administration of the club had been most efficient. He had conducted t’-ic duties of the office with great enthusiasm and ouergy, and had done a great deal to promote tho welfare of the club. They also owed a great debt of gratitude to the board of directors, but the occasion was particularly appropriate to acknowledge tho qualities of the president, and express tne wish that he would have a year of good health to carry on his work with liis wonted energy. “I invest you with the chain of office with the hope that every link may bo a link of luck, and may it fit ligntly upon you and may you and this Rotary Club have another successful year," added Rotarian Murray. The president was accorded musical honours by his fellow Rotarians. Acknowledging tho tribute paid him, Rotarian Black said ho greatly appreciatecd the kindly way in which they had again conferred the office on him, and said they would never know just how much lio had appreciated the fellowship of Rotary. In recognition of the fact that he had been re-elected for his third year, tho president then dedicated to the club a handsome Rotary wheel, made in New Zealand wood by a member of .tho Wellington Club. Mr Black proceeded to eulogise the services of tho board of directors and of the vice-president, Rotarian W. S. Carter. He expressed the hope that next year would find Rotarian CaTter accepting the presidential chair xu recognition of his work for Rotary. The various committee leaders and the Rotary Anncs also came in for a word of commendation. Speaking of the addresses delivered during tho year, tho president said it was a source of congratulation that many of them had come from Rotarians, some of them members of their own club. Various matters of particular interest to Rotarians were also traversed by the president, who made a plea for continued support for inter-club visits, which were always of considerable benefit to the clubs. Rotarian W. S. Carter was re-elected vice-president, Rotarian G. G. Priest hon. secretary, and Rotarian A. Gngor hon. treasurer. The directors of the club aro Rotarians H. H. Blandford, H.' Christmas. J. A. Grant, F. Jackson and S. R. Thompson. Rotarians A. A. Langley, J- JYoung, F. J. Nathan and G. T.Pattle were appointed delegates to the Central Relief Committee. A hearty vote oE thanks was accorded Messrs Collinson and Cunninghamo and staff for courtesies extended during the year. The name of Rotarian Leo Collinson was coupled with the motion. . . P-erident Black was warmly thanked for his gift to tho club on the motion of Rotarian J. Grant.
