A downpour spoilt a huge programme of Economic Conference open air functions and enforced the cancellation of the King’s review of London Territorials in Ilydo Park. His Majesty, regretting the cancellation, paid tribute to the patriotism of the men and their employers and hoped to see a parade in tho early future. Sporting events abandoned included the Queen’s Club tennis finals, while the Air Porco pageant at Hendon was robbed of much of its attractiveness. Although tho programme was curtailed, three Purics made a courageous display. Despite tho poor visibility they soared through the pelting rain at 200 miles per hour with their wings barely 30 feet apart, rolling, looping and zooming and often invisible among the storm clouds. Similarly, although bad visibility enhanced the difficulties of keeping their distance, nine aeroplanes linked by cables to which streamers were attached, exhibited complicated manoeuvres. ,
