100,000 Dollars to Turn Professional
VINES MAY LEAVE AMATEUR RANKS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. NEW YORK, June 24. Repeated rumours that Vines is planning to turn professional soon were partially substantiated to-day when it was learned that the Tennis Corporation which promotes the professional exhibitions of William Tilden and other leading players known as the “Tilden Troupe,’’ is prepared to offer the Californian 100,000 dollars to join the troupe next season. Press despatches from London quote Vines as saying he would certainly give such an offer serious consideration, but he is now playing amateur tenis and had made no definite decision to play professionally.
