Napier Wool Sale

PRICES ON A PAR WITH WELLINGTON.

Per Press Association

NAPIER, Last Night

Tho fourth wool sale of the current season was held to-day, tho catalogue comprising 17,823 bales. There was the usual good attendance of buyers and bidding was well spread, Bradford, Germany, France and Australia being well to the fore with Japan strongly in evidence for lines suitable to her requirements. Tho bulk of the offering consisted of average styles of wools, many showing seed in varying degrees and some being totally unskirted and rather more hairy than usual. .Superior style crossbreds and line wools generally sold at prices firm on February rates. Average crossbreds, medium and coarse, showed a decline of a farthing and sometimes in very shabby and low sorts fully a halfpenny. Lambs' wool was somewhat irregular. Pieces and bellies were in goo'd demand and realised well up to last sale's values, Continental operators being prominent in competition for these sorts. The range of prices was not available, but one broker supplies the following comparison, with February rates: —Halfbreds, par; good average, 46-10’s, par; good average, 44-46's, par to 2d down; average, 40/44's, par to 2d down; average, 36-40’s, par to id down; all inferior wools, M down; pieces and bellies, par; lambs’ wool, par to Id down. Generally speaking, prices throughout tho sale were on a par with Wellington rates.
