Bulk Supply Rates To Power Boards

A REDUCTION SOUGHT

Support of a request emanating from the Waitomo Power Board for a reduction in the bulk power rates charged by the Public Works Department was given by the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board yesterday. 11 Tlie Government/’ said Mr. J. Boyce, “will never reduce its rates unless we push it.” The time, ho added, appeared not far distant when the board would have to reduce its charges to consumers. “When wo get an amalgamation with Palmerston North our charges will be lower,” said the chairman (Mr. 0. McElroy.) > The method used by the Public \V oiks Department in computing the chaigo was commented on by Mr. J. Hodgcns. It was irritating, he said, that, a board should be charged foj the whole of a quarter on the peak that it touched for only 30 minutes during that period. If the peak was made to apply to only one month, it would bo much fairer. Following further comment, it was decided to support the Waitomo Board.
