MANAWATU-HOROWHENUA UNION’S ANNUAL REPORT,
Tlie report to be presented at the annual meeting of the AlanawatuHorowhcnua Rugby Union states that there were (18 teams, comprising 1020 players, engaged each Saturday in the various competitions held in the union's areas. ‘ ‘ Six senior matches were played by the senior representatives and considering the abolishing of the replacement rule and tl<*: fact that a large number of injuries deprived us of some of our more experienced players, our teams gave an excellent account of themselves, winning two games, drawing one and losing three. Three games were played at home and three away. Although it may be rather early to estimate the abilities of our representative teams, judging by the display given last season, when they comprised very young players, we may look forward to the coming season with the utmost eonlidcnce. This union is duo to visit Hawke’s Bay, Otago, (Southland, Wellington and Wairarapa, whilst visits arc due from Taranaki, Wanganui, Wairarapa, Canterbury and (South Canterbury. “The of the union, taking everything into consideration, compare, most favourably with previous seasons. They certainly suffered through the poor attendance at representative matches due to the depression through which we arc passing. Very careful consideration will have to be given to cur finances during the coming season, and every effort should be put forward to curtail expenses. The balance-sheet, while showing a credit balance of £ll2 18s lOd, also shows a deficit on the year’s working of £B4 10s 3d, but taking into consideration the aforementioned conditions, together with the fact that our representatives went on tour to Taranaki, the union’s finances are in a fairly good state. ‘ ‘ The executive wishes to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered by the gentlemen of the medical profession and also to convey its thanks to the gentlemen who assisted with first aid. Thanks are also due to the selectors for the attentiou given to the representative teams and to &)ose gentlemen who acted as managers of the various teams. The valuable assistance of the Press is fully appreciated. Thanks are also due Mr. C. D. Prascr, our bon. auditor. The year brought with it the death of our honoured and valued secretary, Mr. C. AV. AVhite, a noted personality in the world of Rugby football and the executive wishes to place on record the valuable services rendered by the late Mr. AVhite to football in general and as secretary of this union. To the relatives of the late Mr. AVhite we tender, our deepest sympathy. The vacancy was filled by the appointment of Mr. J. H, .AVhite,”
