On Anniversary Day (Monday) a team of local cricket enthusiasts journeyed to Pohangina to play a friendly match with a team of Pohangina’s cricketers. The travellers, probably as a result of their recent ardent practice, proved too strong for the home team, and returned with a victory of 205 to 102. A meeting of those interested in cricket in Bunnytkorpe is to bei held to-morrow night. Mr. and Mrs. R. 11. Abraham and family returned home on Tuesday from an enjoyable holiday spent at Mount Maunganui, Tauranga. Mr. and Mrs. 0. Jackson returned from their holiday at Kuku beach.

White butterflies appear to be getting numerous agaiu in this district, although early in the season there seemed to be fewer than last year. Individual efforts arc being made to destroy the pest. As a result of Hie warm rains experienced at the week-end a sprinkling of mushrooms has been reported throughout the district, while in the Iliwinui area they .were, for a day or so, fairly plentiful. Mr. J. Gore, of Newbury line, received a broken wrist and several bruises when he becamo entangled with a hay-swoop during harvesting operations' last week. At the tune Mr. Gore was endeavouring to stop the two horses which were bolting with the sweep, when they separated, passing on either side of him and catching him m the sweep. Linton will be unable to meet Bnnnythorpe when the lawn tennis competitions arc resumed on Saturday. The local club intends holding a tourney instead, commencing at noon.
