From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the school committco was hold in tho schoolroom on Monday evening. Thero were present Messrs W. A. Boswell (chairman), W. C. Scott (secretary), P. H. Farland, J. F. Nolan, J. Herdman, and S. G. Parlano (head teacher). A letter was received from Mr E. F. Hcmmingway, chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, who had recently made a tour of the schools in the Board’s district, commending the committee for the splendid work carried out. The work seen ou tho tour was beyonod praise, and the welfare of the children was in safe hands. The head teacher reported that the school would rc-opcn on Wednesday, February.!, and it was therefore decided to hold tho annual school picnic on Mr H. J. Lancaster’s property on Friday, February 3, commencing at 10 am. Messrs Boswell and Scott agreed to cart the necessary forms, crockery, etc., from the local hall to the grounds, while the remaining members attended to the catering arrangements. Tho head teacher was asked to convey the thanks of the committee to Mr J. Wheeler for again offering to take charge of tho adults’ sports programme at tho picnic. Accounts totalling £6 10s 6d were passed for payment. Tennis ladder competition matches this week resulted as follow: Parlane beat Ihle 7—3; Mrs Ihlo beat Miss O. Farland 7 —3; Miss M. Prcbble beat Miss B. Wheeler 7—3. A return tennis match will bo played against the Bangiotu club on the local courts next I Saturday afternoon
