Eloquent Tribute to Britain
Received Wednesday, 11 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 14.. The lateness of the nows from Paris of M. Herriot’s docisivo defeat prevented official comment, although in the light of the previous Administration interpretation of the situation is regarded as further complicated. The New York Herald-Tribune, in a leader, praises Britain’s latest Note. ’’The long debate with Britain is oyer and tho payment ended in a fashion which we are confident will in tho long run! count heavily for mutual understanding and friendship between . the two great English-speaking nations. We wolcome it and congratulate the spokesmen of both Governments. The result is that English credit stands in American eyes at the high point at which it has been its tradition and boast. As a consequence in this country, in our opinion, it is certain the sentiment will be strong for leniency and generosity toward a debtor so careful of its honour.” Vindication of Hoover ON WAR DEBTS MORATORIUM. IMPEACHMENT MOTION SWEEPINGLY DEFEATED WASHINGTON, Dee. 13. The House of Representatives, by 36 votes to 8, to-day rejected a move by Representative McFadden, Republican, of Pennsylvania, for the impeachment of ex-President Hoover on the ground that he betrayed the country in the War Debts Moratorium. Mr McFadden said that ex-President Hoover had usurped tho powers of Congress in proclaiming the Debts Moratorium. Ho contended that Hoover’s action had led to the present situation, involving tho United States and foreign debtors. Mr McFadden has long been a foe of the Administration. The Pennsylvania Republicans in the House later demanded the resignation of Mr McFadden as secretary of their delegation.
