BOYS DEMAND £SOOO

TERRIFY YOUNG WOMAN Two boys, aged 15 and 12, who typed a threatening letter from a novel and sent it to Mis Lily Shear (19), of Smith Street, Stepney, London, recently, were remanded in custody at a juvenile court in Toynbee Ilall. The letter included the words “the shot will he fired by hand that never misses” and demanded that £SOOO in notes should he placed in a garden centre-piece at the back of Miss Shear’s house. A solicitor said that the letter in the novel said: “You have only 24 hours for certain,” hut the hoys gave Miss Shear much longer to pay the £SOOO. Miss Shear broke down and wept bitterly when she described the “nerve strain and rack” after receiving the letter.
