Queensland Elections

INCREASE IN CANDIDATES COMPLICATED CONTEST The Queensland election campaign is now in full swing, and polling day will be on June 11. Despite the reduction of seats from 72 to 62, the number of candidates seeking election is .12 more than in 1929. Nominations received total 163, compared with 151 in 1929. The battle for the seats is complicated considerably by the fact that the two main parties have to oppose not only each other, but also 20 candidates from the Queensland Party, six Communist*, Lang plan nominees and several Independents. Should the Labour Party be returned, Queensland citizens will be invited to subscribe to a “Queensland Revival Loan” of £2,500,000, to assist in the work of rehabilitation. It is proposed that tho money raised be spent on reproductive works. Among other suggested “reforms” will be the restoration of the 44-hour week. The present Premier, Mr. A. E. Moore, outlines a “carry-on” of the present policy.
